Maureen has worked in the field of counselling for over 15 years as both a counsellor and clinical supervisor/manager. She brings experience from counselling combined with several years of work in the fields of communications and public education to her role as a SIP board member. She participated on program outcomes and health and safety committees while working full time in the roles of program manager, and clinical manager/supervisor of family programs at Hollyburn Family Services in North Vancouver from 2015 to 2022. She received the agency’s Peak Performance award in 2018 for excellence in leadership.
Maureen now runs a private practice drawing from her trainings (Levels I and II) with SIP and experience with family services agencies, youth counselling, bereavement counselling and volunteer service in hospice and palliative care environments. She has earned her Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) credential from BC Association of Clinical Counsellors in 2023 and continues to offer supervision through her private practice.
She has developed programs for training and recruitment of counselling and support staff, coordinated program outcomes research, and written annual reports. She has supported successful program audits as the supervisor of a CARF accredited family program, and has overseen integrative case management teams working with a wide array of professionals from social work, nursing, psychiatry and addictions and mental health. Her graduate thesis, focused on promoting family resilience, was published as scholarly book by VDM Verlag in 2009, and she has published essays and other articles in the Globe and Mail, the North Shore News, and many trade publications. She is a clinical member of SIP, as well as a member of the Virginia Satir Global Network and the Climate Psychology Alliance of North America.
Originally from Alberta, Maureen now lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and dog. She enjoys visits with her two adult daughters and step son and loves spending her free time kayaking, hiking, biking, reading, drawing, painting and playing piano.
