In this workshop participants will explore:

  1. How to work with the novel metaphor in the sand tray with adults and children
  2. The nonverbal right brain to right brain relationship between therapist & client
  3. Epigenetics
  4. How to transform the defenses in the sand tray
  5. The use of enactments
  6. How to use the Iceberg metaphor with figurines
  7. The importance of play
  8. How to facilitate transformational change through asking process questions of the figurines in the sand tray
  9. How to access the clients body responses to the images in the sand tray.

In addition, participants will be given the details and suggestions for setting up a workspace for this kind of therapy work. The workshop will look at this model of sand tray therapy using photographs and videos of actual sand tray sessions with adults and children and daily practice in triads. There will be demonstrations by Madeleine each day.

Madeleine DeLittlewith
Dr. Madeleine De Little, RTC, MTC, RCS, Ph.D.

Madeleine De Little has been a student for ten years of ‘Transformational Systemic Therapy’. She is currently the research chair of the Satir Institute of the Pacific and a faculty member of the Banmen Satir China Management Centre. Her studies of the latest developments in neuroscience and transformational change have led her to develop a unique model of sand tray therapy and write a book, Where Words Can’t Reach - Neuroscience and the Satir Model in the Sand Tray. Madeleine has been an elementary and high school for 28 years and continues to be a therapist in private practice and an international trainer in her model of sand tray work. The research for her Ph.D. focused on the personal and professional impact on student therapists of learning and practicing this model of sand tray therapy.  Madeleine is a Master Therapeutic Counsellor and a Registered Clinical Supervisor.
